Wing Chun is a Southern Chinese martial art focusing on augmented striking, trapping, and mobility. Simply stated: 1-Get Inside 2-Stay there 3-Finish it.
It aims to overwhelm, and out-maneuver the opponent much like an aircraft.
It does this through a sophisticated set of Principles including Economy and Complexity.
Wing Chun is known by its distinctive punch, wing block, and stance. These three are enough to demonstrate Wing Chun’s function as a system in the mathematical sense.
The vertical fist provides the Sunken Elbow needed for JeetKune (slicing fist). The BongSao (wing block) snaps up momentarily to cover the attractive opening above the sunken elbow. The small stance provides mobility as well as leg trapping and kicking. Like a finely-tuned basketball or soccer team, these three “pass the ball” from strength to strength.
“Wing Chun is a System...If you understand Wing Chun, any art can apply, the Principles
of it.”
--Wang Kiu
“Wing Chun is a Round Table.”
At this time, we decided to change our organization’s name from Yellow Rose Wing
Chun, and modify our patch.
After 20 years of modestly representing GrandMaster Wang Kiu in the USA, Sifu Maier
attended a party in Belgium (host’s account) (pictures) that celebrated GM Wang’s
67 years in Wing Chun.
The characters for “Wing Chun” read across to show the scope of our work, while the
characters “Wang Kiu” read down to show our CenterLine in the Principles he teaches.
