TactiCog sm (Tactical Cognition) is the home of Sifu Maier’s research work in the way mental load effects learning, training and performance in martial arts. Absolutely unique work, important no matter what art or style you practice.
Wing Chun’s 3 Forms, 2 weapons & 1 Dummy (wood & live-
We believe that it is easier to grasp the System that is Wing Chun if all 3 forms
are introduced early, and then understanding grows in that unified Whole. Each form
has fundamentals that can be applied quickly, and support each other early in learning.
Each also has advanced ideas that we return to later as the student develops what
we call “Wing Chun Thinking” or “Principle-
Specialized drills Maier designed as part of his doctoral program at Texas A&M University help to develop a FanSao (Continuing Hand) comprehension of the art. This is an attempt to replicate Wang Kiu’s forte when he helped Yip Man build the Hong Kong school in the 1950’s. This method of smoothly shifting between skills has been shown by research to increase mental agility and use practice time very efficiently. Sensitivity, yes! But Logic, too!
This part of our work is based in Maier’s Ph.D. work in practice schedules, situation awareness and Naturalistic Decision Making. These fields, in which Maier has published and presented research offer solid cognitive science supporting what GM Yip Man and GM Wang Kiu have given us to pass on.
You can not perform differently until you think differently. After a year in our Wing Chun program, you will never see yourself or a situation the same again!
